What is a Homeowners Association (HOA)? Along with many things to consider when looking for that perfect home, one thing you may not consider is being informed about an HOA. An HOA is an organization in a subdivision, planned community, or condominium that makes and enforces rules for that community. Many neighborhoods have HOAs but there are also a number of communities that don’t. So, which is best for you?
An HOA has a set of Rules and Regulations that usually cover many things in the community, such as, the paint color of the homes, landscaping, fence color, satellite dish location, parking, etc. The purpose of these rules is to keep a uniform clean look to the community. For example, one neighbor can’t run an auto mechanic shop out of his garage and the other can’t paint their home neon yellow. However, the PROS of living in an HOA for someone else, could be the CONS for you. Maybe you have an RV that you want to park on the side of your home, some HOA’s may not allow that. Different communities have different rules and restrictions. Therefore, it’s important you are informed about these Rules and Regulations before you purchase in an HOA.
